The 2021 New Zealand ALPMA/Fluid Legal Recruitment HR Issues & Salary Survey was conducted through late 2020 to early 2021, for release in March 2021.
In 2021, 115 law firms (representing 2,992 staff) participated in our New Zealand survey, making it the most comprehensive, independent HR and remuneration study across all roles (including actual salaries paid) within the New Zealand legal industry.
This 70+ page report will provide findings on:
Wages flat, with partners and executive salaries down sharply |
2020 Legal Industry Salaries: Flat (avg. fall of 0.4%)
2020 Average National Wage Growth: Up 1.6% |
Employment remained strong, although some small firms reduced in size |
74% of responding firms maintained or increased headcount |
Forecasts are positive, with further growth expected in 2021 |
Staff levels expected to increase in 2021 at 68% of responding firms |
Financial bonuses used more selectively to reward employees |
Firms offering financial incentives to all staff fell to 44% (51% in 2020) but bonuses still used at seven in ten NZ law firms. |
Managing staff flexibility and staff mental health most important issues |
