Every year we conduct a Salary and HR Issues Survey of NZ law firms. This year, 115 law firms (representing 2,992 staff) participated in our New Zealand survey, making it the most comprehensive, independent HR and remuneration study across all roles (including actual salaries paid) within the New Zealand legal industry. The report on the 2021 survey was released in early March to assist firms with their annual staff reviews.
Carmen Simmonds, General Manager at Norris Ward McKinnon and Eden Brown, Managing Consultant from the 2021 NZ Salary and HR Issues survey Sponsor, Fluid Recruitment, discuss the key findings of the survey and provide an insightful overview of the current NZ recruitment market.
Eden leads our national legal recruitment team as Managing Consultant, based in the Christchurch office. He covers intermediate and senior level appointments across all legal disciplines.
Eden Brown is the Managing Consultant of Fluid Legal – the specialist legal search division of Fluid Recruitment. His team operates nationwide, servicing the private practice market to recruit both professional and support roles at all levels. Fluid Legal consultants are well networked, knowledgeable and proactive. As a result, they are well placed to offer informed advice and ultimately solve talent related problems for clients.
Eden personally specialises in ‘difficult to fill’ senior assignments, most often targeting associate level and above. He utilises a retained search model with selected partnership clients to directly headhunt top talent, while also maintaining strong networks in key candidate demographics to keep firms informed of the best candidates as they enter the market.
Carmen Simmonds is the General Manager at Norris Ward McKinnon, based in Hamilton. Carmen works alongside the firm’s Managing Partner to create and implement strategy, and the initiatives that support the firm’s long-term goals.
She has a background in human resources and management, and completed her MBA at the University of Waikato not long after joining NWM in 2006.
In her role Carmen has responsibility for the firm’s business support team and oversees the functions of finance, marketing, IT, HR and communications.
Carmen takes a lot of personal enjoyment from the people side of the business, and is heavily involved in the firm’s programmes around talent acquisition, reward and recognition, leadership development, diversity, and wellness. She is also on the ALPMA NZ Branch Committee.
