ALPMA is thrilled to announce that we are releasing a new benefit to ALPMA Members in FY25: a complimentary Advocate membership with the Australian Legal Technology Association (ALTA).
Given the rise and use of technology within the legal industry and the ever-increasing role technology will play into the future, we believe it’s more important than ever that our members have the ability to stay up-to-date on IT best practices and the changing legaltech market.
ALTA is a community of Australian legal technology companies and the individuals & law firms that support and advocate for building the presence of Australian legal technology both locally and on a global stage.
Australia has a thriving Legal Technology market and community, and within this vigorous community, ALTA provides a range of unique and interactive ways that the broader legal profession can interact with legal technology and its creators. ALTA runs regular events including the popular “Hour of Power” demo and Q&A sessions, member meet-ups and legaltech webinars.
They are also the driving force behind ALTACON, the premier event in the Australian legaltech calendar, following the sell-out success of the inaugural ALTACON in 2019. After successfully pivoting to a virtual conference in 2021, it now returns to in-person as part of the 2024 ALPMA Summit, where it will form a full day dedicated to enabling technology in the legal sector.
ALTA is also proud to play a leading role in the support of women in legaltech, with the active Women of the Australian Legal Technology Association (WALTA) subcommittee fostering a collective spirit of collegiality, collaboration and community. They recently launched the Women in Legaltech Directory to feature the women behind the legaltech companies and raise the profile of female founders and all women in the industry.
In December 2023, ALPMA announced a new agreement that would see ALPMA powering ALTA. Through complimentary member access to ALTA content, this new arrangement allows us to strengthen our technology education offering by providing additional knowledge, education, information and connections to technology providers within the industry all designed to both help you within your role, and to assist your firm to improve their operational efficiencies and digital literacy.
ALPMA president Stephen van Dorp says, “The legal industry is rapidly changing and (legal) technology is playing a significant role in driving this change, with that change only set to increase in speed and significance into the future.
“Technological and digital literacy is fast becoming must-have skill set and as a member-based Association our promise to members is to assist them to keep abreast of the changes impacting the industry, and their firms, as it relates to the ‘business of law’.
“Our members are typically business management teams within law firms who are looking for ways to streamline and improve their business operations. Improved technology usage and technology adoption is often the way forward.”
ALPMA Chief Executive Officer, Emma Elliott, said that her team is “delighted to be able to leverage our relationship with ALTA to provide even more value for all members”.
