The refresher course allows people who have previously completed a Mental Health First Aid course to refresh their knowledge and skills. The course also offers Accredited MHFAiders an opportunity to extend their accreditation for a further 3 years. You are eligible for a Refresher course if you have completed a full MHFA course and accreditation assessment, within the last 3 years.
This course is a 5-hour virtual workshop session (via Zoom) that teaches managers, supervisors and individuals how to assist a co-worker who might be developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis.
A copy of the Mental Health First Aid manual is required to complete your training.
THIS COURSE WILL HELP YOU:
- Gain an understanding of the latest research in the mental health field
- Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal
- Work through complex mental health first aid interactions
- Practice mental health first aid skills
WHY IS THE REFRESHER COURSE IMPORTANT?
- Continual Learning – continual learning is a cornerstone of quality education and training.
- Knowledge retention – studies show that elements of learned knowledge can decrease over time but can be reinforced for greater long-term retention.
- Accreditation – completing a refresher is a requirement to maintaining a formally recognised MHFAider Accreditation. It will extend your accreditation for a further 3 years.
- Safety – ensuring people have up to date knowledge and skills is essential for the safety of participants, communities, and the people they support.
- Skill building – refresher content builds on existing knowledge base and skillset with revision and the opportunity to enhance understanding and hone skills.
- Real world application – refreshers boosts participant confidence to apply what has been learned in the real world.
- Professional development – refresher training provides a contribution to Professional Development (CPD) – often recognised or required by employers.
- Valued by employers – current and accredited MHFA training is valued by employers and employees as a respected and useful resource.
- Efficient and effective – It is more efficient (time and cost) and effective to refresh your training than letting accreditation lapse and starting again.
- Currency – the world and our environments are ever changing – refresher training allows for current topical discussions and examples utilising our sound evidence base and the latest available delivery techniques.
Within the general community there is a high prevalence of mental illness with 1 in 5 people suffering a mental health problem in any given year, however there is an even higher prevalence within the legal sector with 1 in 3 people experiencing a mental health problem in any given year.
This might include (but is not limited to) depression, anxiety, substance abuse or stress, at a level that is considered unhealthy. Early recognition of signs and symptoms can lead to a return to usual performance quickly and can alleviate the problem worsening.
Would you know how to assist a co-worker who was experiencing a mental health problem?
It’s important that you do, but it is equally as important that multiple people within your firm know how to assist too. MHFA Training should be encouraged across seniority, departments and genders to ensure diversity of support.
Participant numbers are limited to a maximum of 12. Book now to secure your place.
Important: Registration changes within three weeks of the course date incur a $100 administration fee.
Cancellations with full refund are only accepted up to three weeks before the course. Please see Payment & Cancellation policy for more details.
