Emily McCarthy, Lexveritas

"In 2020, after a lifetime of good health, I suffered severe post-natal depression and an in-patient stay in a psychiatric hospital. This experience transformed my life and my family's, and I am eager to share these lessons to foster understanding and support, given that nearly half of all Australians will suffer a mental health illness in their lifetime. We all know that the legal industry can be challenging and stressful, and that lawyers’ personal wellbeing can be compromised. Join me as I discuss the realities of mental illness, the power of seeking help, and how we can better support ourselves and others through challenging times.

As an experienced HR practitioner, I also have practical tips to implement into your workplace immediately to ensure that you are fostering a safe workplace for all."

Join Emily McCarthy this October, as she shares her personal journey with mental health in a discussion titled "I Am Not OK". Emily will bravely delve into her experience of navigating illness and how, with the right support, she emerged on the other side of mental wellness. Emily will take you through her story of appearing happy and successful on the outside whilst concealing a tightly held secret, how this secret was eventually uncovered, and how she received the help needed, and the profound impact it has had on Emily's life. But just as she began to find stability, Emily received an unexpected diagnosis that turned her world upside down once again.

The Queensland Annual Branch Meeting will be held at the beginning of this seminar. The meeting may include a vote of members on nominations for election to sit on the QLD Branch Committee.  Only current members are eligible to vote at the meeting, but non-members are welcome to attend. If you cannot attend the ABM, please submit a proxy vote here
